WAILHOUSE
You’d do what I do
If you could see what I have seen
You’d go where I go
If you had known what I have known
Here I am in this desert of sands
Before the time runs out I’m gonna do what I can
And though we’ve come so far we haven’t got any plans
You can speak the language but you can’t understand
So I ran to the water and I fell on my knees
Yes I ran to the water and fell on my knees
Well I jumped in the water and drifted down
I lost all my senses and when I came round
I was here with Jonah whom I’d finally found
There’d been a hundred years since he had seen the ground
If you could, if you could, if you could be there
If you could, if you could, if you could be there
You’d do what I do
If you could see what I can see
Yes you would
You’d go where I go
If you could know what I have known
Yes you would
Down in the belly, in the belly of the whale
Down in the belly, in the belly of the whale
Down in the belly, in the belly of the whale
With me
In the wailhouse, baby, how does it feel?
In the wailhouse, baby, how does it feel?
In the wailhouse, baby, how does it feel?
Down in the belly, in the belly of the whale
Down in the belly, in the belly of the whale
Down in the belly, in the belly of the whale
With me

The great underlying instrumentation paired with Florence's droll stream of consciousness lyrics make this album stand out. It feels so personal and confessional. Favorite tracks are Strong Feelings and Leafy. I've heard Scratchard Lanyard on alt radio and love that one as well. tofupotpie
Kansas City trio Flooding draw out the more mystical qualities of slowcore and noise rock for a heavy sound that's less stony than doom. Bandcamp New & Notable Oct 26, 2023
A killer re-release of a rare solo post-punk LP from 1988 by the frontman of Taste of Decay and Garden of Pleasures. Bandcamp New & Notable Jan 17, 2022
On her latest EP, Baltimore's Mariah Fortune adds electronic beats and synth layers to her rhythmic dark folk meditations. Bandcamp New & Notable Mar 21, 2018
Very happy a colleague recommended Mdou Moctar to me after I discovered & fell in love with Tinariwen and this new (to me) desert blues sound! Mdou Moctar inject more of a psychedelic sensibility into their music rather than Tinariwen's drone, making it flavorfully distinctive, while still carrying that shining, twanging, sun-drenched sound we all love about Saharan desert rock. Love the grooving rhythms and the alternately snappy clean or drowned-in-effects guitar melodies. Excellent work! pinkytheent
