GRILLER
Jacqui:
I was watching you
All the things that you do
Suddenly waking
Eyes rolling from the water
I could have seen it
I could have been a believer
Just a little light away
In the home made
Host toys bend the cozy hole
Just a light away
Long before the insinuation
Long before the black staying things
A hundred thousand parachutes
The jumpers all got cut
And the dogs they could not
Bite the net
Who put the room
Who put the room
Who put the dark
Who put the room
Thread from your needle
Wound round me tight
Splinter my move
Take a my sight
Don't you know that it kills me
Don't you know that it kills me
Who put the room
Who grilled my sight
Don't you know that you kill me
Don't you know that you kill me
Who put the room
Who put the room
Griller come down
Sally:
I see the time go
I see the light go
I see a question going out on its own
It’s waiting hope, it’s waiting sight now
It’s waiting for the weather to turn
And rise up, up
Up to the sky where the universal eye
And the question raised broke through the haze
And now we know
And now we know
Then the fire broke
Through the house the fire broke
It swept the house
And it went round and round
Who closed the door?
Who closed the door?
Down at the well
Down at the well
Looking, looking deep, deep down now
Looking, looking deep
Who do you know?
What did you do there?
What did you do there?
What did you do there?
Who did you know
Deep down now?
Looking through the manhole
Down in the well
That’s your childhood, babe
That’s your childhood, babe
Who do you know?
Oh where did you go?

The great underlying instrumentation paired with Florence's droll stream of consciousness lyrics make this album stand out. It feels so personal and confessional. Favorite tracks are Strong Feelings and Leafy. I've heard Scratchard Lanyard on alt radio and love that one as well. tofupotpie
Kansas City trio Flooding draw out the more mystical qualities of slowcore and noise rock for a heavy sound that's less stony than doom. Bandcamp New & Notable Oct 26, 2023
A killer re-release of a rare solo post-punk LP from 1988 by the frontman of Taste of Decay and Garden of Pleasures. Bandcamp New & Notable Jan 17, 2022
On her latest EP, Baltimore's Mariah Fortune adds electronic beats and synth layers to her rhythmic dark folk meditations. Bandcamp New & Notable Mar 21, 2018
Very happy a colleague recommended Mdou Moctar to me after I discovered & fell in love with Tinariwen and this new (to me) desert blues sound! Mdou Moctar inject more of a psychedelic sensibility into their music rather than Tinariwen's drone, making it flavorfully distinctive, while still carrying that shining, twanging, sun-drenched sound we all love about Saharan desert rock. Love the grooving rhythms and the alternately snappy clean or drowned-in-effects guitar melodies. Excellent work! pinkytheent
