CANKER
Who’s at the wall?
Who’s at the wall?
Who’s at the wall?
This morning all’s gone quiet at the wall
Seems they’ve all gone home but what’s this looming tall?
Well they opened the doors and what did I see
But your Trojan horse coming straight at me
But your Trojan horse coming straight at me
Are you alone?
Are you alone?
Are you alone?
You should have seen the snakes that came out of the sea
Trying to hide the truth from me
There was one who warned me but I didn’t believe
She said it hid some more confusion for me
Well, some things are not what they seem
Yeah, some things are not what they seem
Now who’s the whore?
Now who’s the whore?
Tear the walls down
Night fell down and hid the sea
The sky circled round and I, I couldn’t see
Blinded by the grip of sleep
I was the last thing he couldn’t keep
I’ve been the last thing he couldn’t keep
The hated thing that lit the spark
And burned down a city’s heart
A canker in the city’s heart
Yeah a canker in the city’s heart
Now who’s alone?
Now who’s alone?
Now who’s alone?
Close the door, close the door
Close the door, close the door
But it’s too late
The fire has spread
I can no longer feel
And I’m the one they’ve come to steal
Well, they invented this world when they invented the wheel
They invented this world when they invented the wheel
They invented this world when they invented the wheel
Take me home
Take me home
Take me home

The great underlying instrumentation paired with Florence's droll stream of consciousness lyrics make this album stand out. It feels so personal and confessional. Favorite tracks are Strong Feelings and Leafy. I've heard Scratchard Lanyard on alt radio and love that one as well. tofupotpie
Kansas City trio Flooding draw out the more mystical qualities of slowcore and noise rock for a heavy sound that's less stony than doom. Bandcamp New & Notable Oct 26, 2023
A killer re-release of a rare solo post-punk LP from 1988 by the frontman of Taste of Decay and Garden of Pleasures. Bandcamp New & Notable Jan 17, 2022
On her latest EP, Baltimore's Mariah Fortune adds electronic beats and synth layers to her rhythmic dark folk meditations. Bandcamp New & Notable Mar 21, 2018
Very happy a colleague recommended Mdou Moctar to me after I discovered & fell in love with Tinariwen and this new (to me) desert blues sound! Mdou Moctar inject more of a psychedelic sensibility into their music rather than Tinariwen's drone, making it flavorfully distinctive, while still carrying that shining, twanging, sun-drenched sound we all love about Saharan desert rock. Love the grooving rhythms and the alternately snappy clean or drowned-in-effects guitar melodies. Excellent work! pinkytheent
