BIG WING
outside there is a strange wind
howling around like a constant sin
why not say it was him
who combed the mountains looking for a pin
alone with his itch
and the affliction of a myth
and all that wide, wide wonder
and all that wide, wide wonder
innocence has led us here
without even a torch to bear
to see the shadows of our own messiahs
rise and then glory, far above the trials
far, far, far above the trial
there’s a pedestal hidden
in a bottomless ditch
as this vision is wrenched
from its lifeless niche
like ghosts of our own theosophy
kindered and riding roughshod
to the sound of an army’s boots
and we only have to weary
for the lamps to lie quiet
and waiting for a movement to rise
rise and take notion
pulling on the wings of flies
stunned by the cold
waiting for a hot, hot sun
to dry up every fold
and wings will be the thing once again
wings will be the thing once again
and with new, new reason
and with new, new, new, new reason
Back vocals:
I was watching you
I saw your bones there
is this your house?
you were a hunter then
you were a hunter
turn over the earth
you were crawling up
you were crawling up
no no no cope
no no no no cope
that you bring to me
A fantastic album. I can see why they didn't continue under the name The Evens, as it's a different sound with the bass added. Coriky is the Evens + Joe Lally from Fugazi on bass. If you can imagine The Evens with a slightly more funky, aggressive sound like Fugazi... that's what you get! And there's no way that can ever go wrong. What a great debut album!! smiledozer
The great underlying instrumentation paired with Florence's droll stream of consciousness lyrics make this album stand out. It feels so personal and confessional. Favorite tracks are Strong Feelings and Leafy. I've heard Scratchard Lanyard on alt radio and love that one as well. tofupotpie
Kansas City trio Flooding draw out the more mystical qualities of slowcore and noise rock for a heavy sound that's less stony than doom. Bandcamp New & Notable Oct 26, 2023
